Living in the Monadnock Region, I climbed the mountain as a kid like many people in the area do. It wasn't until I started to get into photography though that I really got interested in the mountain. There is lots of history tied to the mountain, which makes for many things to photograph. As I got more and more into parts of the mountain, I started to hike it more often. I then started setting hiking goals for the mountain.
In 2010 I set the goal of hiking the mountain at least once during each month of the year. I accomplished this and made multiple trips each month starting in August. This included once a week for the month of December, which brought me to an even 20 hikes for the year. In 2011 I set the goal of hiking the mountain twice a month. I ended up with 24 total hikes, but only made 1 hike in August. After that, I started hiking more in the White Mountains and made fewer trips to the mountain. In 2014, I didn't hike the mountain at all because I spent the year trying to hike all 67 of the New England 4000 footers and didn't have many hiking days to spare (read more here).
I have also accomplished other goals like hiking each trail on the map starting at the lower end and working my way up the trail to the higher end. I'm even keeping track of trails I have hiked at night and in winter. I'm also keeping track of which days of the year I have hiked the mountain, hoping to someday hike it on all 366 days of the year.
